One of my graduate students sent this article around. Great piece on the pressures facing academic faculty and the cost to creativity incurred by the current system. I know all too well how little genuine creativity really matters to most academic institutions. Its refreshing to hear someone else say it.
Went to see Greg Brown at the Cactus Cafe last night. Was an amazing show. I was totally captivated. He played for close to 2 hours, but it could have been half an hour or four hours -- I lost any sense of time. The Catus is truely a great venue. Its about 1200 square feet by my estimate, including the bar. Too often these days, it seems live music in Austin is not about listening to music anymore. I'm going to have to try to catch more shows at the Cactus.
