I recently discovered Mendeley and it looks great. I wrote a mini-review.

Google runs a program each summer that pays students to work on open source software projects. I have mentored students in the past as part of the OSGeo project. See the 2009 project ideas page. My past mentees have been abroad, however I would much prefer to mentor a student locally in Austin. Please contact me if you are interested. (The program is open to both graduate and undergraduate students.)

Clark University sent me a notice about their HERO program: http://www.clarku.edu/hero. It pays students to conduct research on water resources in Massachusetts.
